2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout

The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L ($45,195), TrailSport ($49,995) and TrailSport Elite ($53,695). Two factory versions round out the lineup: the RT-L Towing adds a Class III hitch for +$700, and a Blackout package on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite adds +$1,500. Every Passport shares a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, a 5,000-lb tow rating and the full Honda Sensing suite. Stepping up to the TrailSport ($4,800 more) buys real trail hardware: 9.6 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. The TrailSport Elite ($3,700 more) adds comfort: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose system and a hands-free liftgate.

Around Brookhaven, the Passport trim question comes down to gravel and the boat. The RT-L handles I-55. The TrailSport adds a hitch, all-terrain tires and skid plates for Homochitto roads and lake weekends.

Best value trim?
Our pick is the TrailSport. Its $4,800 premium over the RT-L covers a hitch ($700 on its own as the RT-L Towing), all-terrain tires, skid plates, TrailWatch, a moonroof and a heated wheel.
Which trim fits Southwest Mississippi?
On pavement, including the Natchez Trace Parkway, the RT-L does everything you need. For gravel roads in the Homochitto National Forest, step up to the TrailSport, and add the Elite for ventilated seats and Bose audio.
How much can each trim tow?
All six are rated at 5,000 lbs. The RT-L Towing and both TrailSports include a factory Class III hitch; the RT-L needs one added.
Which trims have leather?
The RT-L (leather-trimmed with cloth accents) and the TrailSport Elite (perforated leather). The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
What's in the Blackout package?
Black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes for $1,500. It's an appearance package.
What changed for 2027?
TrailSport trims gained ride height (9.6 in. clearance), amber hood lights and a new front, plus TrailWatch and a heated wheel on the TrailSport.
Trim vs. trim

Five Passport Comparisons, Settled

RT-L vs. RT-L Towing

RT-L $45,195 vs. RT-L Towing $45,895

For $700, the RT-L Towing adds a factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel, nothing else. If you'll ever haul a trailer to Lake Lincoln and the Ross Barnett Reservoir, it's the version to get.

RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport

RT-L Towing $45,895 vs. TrailSport $49,995

Both have a factory hitch, and $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport adds the trail hardware (clearance, all-terrains, skid plates, TrailWatch) plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps real leather, a gray interior option and 3 more highway mpg.

TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport $49,995 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a Southwest Mississippi summer, the ventilated seats alone make the case.

TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport Blackout $51,495 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

Only $2,200 apart, these are a style-versus-comfort decision. The Blackout gets the darker look; the Elite gets the comfort upgrades but keeps standard trim. You can have both in the Elite Blackout.

TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout

TrailSport Elite $53,695 vs. TrailSport Elite Blackout $55,195

$1,500 buys black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Everything else is identical.

The Trade-Offs of Moving Up a Trim

Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.

RT-L to TrailSport

  • Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
  • A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
  • Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
  • Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
  • Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
  • Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
  • Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
  • Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).

TrailSport to TrailSport Elite

  • Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
  • The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
  • Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.

Standard to Blackout

  • The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
  • $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.

2027 vs. 2026

2027 Passport Changes

A taller TrailSport

TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.

A new TrailSport face

Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.

More standard TrailSport equipment

TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.

Darker Blackout

Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.

Smoke Blue Pearl

A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.

Higher prices

MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.

Test drive

How to Test-Drive a Passport in Southwest Mississippi

A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.

  1. Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
  2. Bring your trailer plug type. The TrailSport's hitch uses a 7-pin connector.
  3. Sit in the back seat of both. The TrailSport's moonroof costs about an inch of rear headroom; see if you notice.
  4. Fold the rear seat and load what you really carry. There's 44 cu ft behind the second row.
  5. Merge onto I-55 or US-84 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
  6. If you can, take both trims toward the Natchez Trace Parkway. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
  7. On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
  8. Check your garage: the TrailSport is 74.5 in. tall, 1.4 in. taller than the RT-L.
  9. Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.

How many 2027 Honda Passport trims are there?

Three trims, RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, plus three factory versions built on them: RT-L Towing, TrailSport Blackout and TrailSport Elite Blackout.

How much does the 2027 Honda Passport cost?

MSRP is $45,195 for the RT-L, $45,895 for the RT-L Towing, $49,995 for the TrailSport, $51,495 for the TrailSport Blackout, $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite and $55,195 for the TrailSport Elite Blackout. Add the $1,595 destination charge and $455 for premium paint colors.

What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?

The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.

Is the TrailSport Elite worth it?

It's worth it if comfort matters. For $3,700 over the TrailSport you get perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio with 12 speakers, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and rear-door sunshades.

What does the RT-L Towing add?

A factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 over the RT-L. Nothing else changes.

Is the Passport Blackout just cosmetic?

Yes. For $1,500 you get black wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes; features and capability match the non-Blackout trim.

Which Passport trim should I get for driving around Southwest Mississippi?

For paved drives like the Natchez Trace Parkway, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For gravel roads in the Homochitto National Forest, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.

Yes. Every 2027 Passport has i-VTM4 all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, Trail Torque Logic and seven drive modes, including Trail, Sand and Snow.

Can the 2027 Passport tow a camper or boat?
